Tea with Alastair Campbell

A few folks (Roger, Elizabeth, hello) have “told me off” for having a blog and then not (a) updating it with news of what I’m up to business-wise and (b) not using it to share interesting stuff.

So from now on, I will blog if something interesting stikes me. Yesterday was interesting. A chat with Alastair Campbell about his involvement in a major event. For my money, he is one of the most misunderstood people in the world of communications and the media. Labelled the “King of Spin”, yet – in reality – passionate about getting complex arguments out there and better understood by voters.

He is also one of the few people I’ve met who fully grasps (a) the power of social media to drive the news agenda (b) the need for businesses to take communications more seriously as they develop strategies, interact with government, and wander their way through the thorny world of today’s media muddle.

He is also witty, warm and likeable. Which is more than can be said for most of his media detractors. You may not agree?
